The fabrics used in our products are meticulously made by Yakan weavers, each woven with a story holding their hope for peace. ⠀ Weavers, like them, usually spend around ten hours a day working aside from their maternal duties.
A meter of a woven fabric will take up to 2 days to finish. The weavers get around a hundred pesos for each meter so in a month, they can probably weave 12-15 meters of cloth which is around Php 1,200-Php 1,500 only.

This is Halima.
A former OSY (out-of-school youth), Halima was able to finish her studies through the help of a local organization in Basilan.
She is now an active youth leader and an advocate of the “Tennun” or weaving. A skillfull weaver herself, she has been helping other weavers from her community in her own little way and working to ensure this Yakan tradition lives on.
Hinangan Yakan is proud to partner with women like Halima. Their handwoven products include table runners, scarves and wallets.
